The Israeli Cabinet’s mini -cabinet decision to occupy Gaza and the determination of the occupation army to expand its ground operation in Rafah, southern Gaza Strip, sparked controversy in the Israeli circles today, as the opposition and the families of the detainees rejected him, while ministers supported him under the pretext that the operation was a “way to achieve victory.”
Israeli National Security Minister Etamar bin Ghaffir commented on the decision to expand the ground operation and occupy the Gaza Strip, “everything must be done for the detainees except for one matter that is to endanger an entire nation,” according to his description.
He claimed that the possibility of the detainees returning would increase if Israel fought the war until he achieved what it described as absolute victory.
Bin Ghafir added that “the only assistance that can be provided to the Gaza Strip is the voluntary immigration,” which US President Donald Trump promoted and adopted by Israel as part of its work on displacing the Palestinians.
The Israeli Finance Minister Btlael Smotrich also said that “Gaza will be destroyed” after the war ended, in response to a question during a symposium in the “Ovara” settlement in the occupied West Bank.
He added that the inhabitants of Gaza will start “leaving large numbers towards a third country”, which he did not name, after they were transferred to the southern Gaza Strip, as it is likely that the plan approved by the Israeli government to expand the war in Gaza ensure that the population was transferred to Rafah, where the Israeli army may supervise the distribution of aid.
He continued, “The Arabs should be exposed to a new catastrophe,” in response to the events of October 7, 2023, according to his description.
The opposition refuses
For his part, the leader of the Israeli opposition, Yair Labid, said that the government of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu cannot manage anything, and therefore it will not be able to manage Gaza.
Lapid called for an exchange deal, noting that the military pressure has so far killed more prisoners who returned them.
He added that no one understands what is the aim of the war, stressing that over time Israel loses the confidence of the reserve soldiers.
The leader of the Israeli “Camp Party”, Benny Gantz, also criticized plans to expand the ground operation in Gaza.
He stressed that Israel “will not wake up and find that Hamas has disappeared, as Netanyahu says,” adding that if Tel Aviv continues in what he called procrastination, it will wake up in the morning to find that there are no longer alive detainees.
For her part, the mother of the Israeli prisoner, Tamir Nimrodi, who is held in Gaza, said that she fears the lives of the detainees to expand the military operation in Gaza, especially since those who were captured with her son were killed in an Israeli bombing in a tunnel in Jabalia in the northern Gaza Strip.
The mother of the prisoner added, in statements to Israeli radio, that “the American president alone is a pressure on Israel and achieved the previous truce and deal,” as she put it.
She noted that Trump will not be able to expand Abraham’s agreements without ending the fighting in Gaza, she said.
The expansion of the fighting
Earlier today, the occupation army announced its intention to expand the military operation in Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip.
“After completing the surrounding of Rafah several weeks ago, the army forces are still continuing their activity in the region, and its patch is expected to expand to include several additional sites and neighborhoods,” he said in a statement.
The Israeli army has been citing several weeks ago, the area between the Philadelphia axis on the border between Gaza and Egypt and the Morag axis, which separates Rafah from the city of Khan Yunis.
On Monday, the mini security council in Israel approved a plan to penetrate and control the lands of the Gaza Strip after summoning tens of thousands of reserve soldiers to expand operations and push the idea of emigration of the Palestinians.
The mini -security government approved on Sunday night unanimously on the plan, which an Israeli official said, “includes, among several matters, the incursion into the Gaza Strip, keeping control of its lands, and transporting the residents of Gaza to the south.”
But Israeli media said that the plan will not be implemented before the US President’s visit to the region in the middle of this month, on the pretext of giving a last opportunity for negotiations.
In turn, the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) rejected the Israeli plan, stressing that it is a political extortion in the war.
