Recent reports revealed problems facing the Israeli occupation army in the Gaza Strip, related to the fear of the soldiers from the fighting, which leads them to escape or suicide, as well as political differences that hinder the extension of the reserve summons orders.
The Israeli Broadcasting Corporation said that the coalition parties failed for the third time to approve an issue from the Foreign and Security Committee to recruit reserve fighters.
The commission indicated that there are differences between Defense Minister Yisrael Katz and Knesset member Amihai Halevi during a session of the Foreign and Security Committee.
She added that Representative Halevi told Minister Katz that the plans of the military operation in Gaza were bad, and demanded that a full siege on the sector be imposed before the soldiers were entered.
The nightmare of return to Gaza
The commission quoted military sources that Israeli soldiers asked their leaders not to return to the fighting in the Gaza Strip.
The sources said that army leaders threatened 11 soldiers to prison because of their disobedience to military orders after they refused to return to Gaza.
According to the sources, the soldiers told their leaders that they were no longer psychologically ready to fight in the Gaza Strip again.
The battalion commander threatened the soldiers with 20 days in prison for refusing to carry out orders, according to the same source.
“After 17 entry rounds to Gaza, we went through a huge number of operational events, we fought for many months, and we lost our friends,” the soldiers said in a message to their leaders.
They added, “After the date of our official demobilization, we were now summoned according to an emergency order.
Suicide and burial secretly
In the same context, the Haaretz newspaper quoted military sources as saying that 35 Israeli soldiers committed suicide from the beginning of the war on the Gaza Strip until the end of 2024.
The newspaper added that the Israeli army refuses to reveal the number of soldiers who committed suicide during the current year, but quoted sources that 7 soldiers have committed suicide since the beginning of this year, and that the reason is the continuation of the war on Gaza.
The newspaper also said, quoting sources that the Israeli army has been buried since the war, many soldiers due to suicide without military funerals.
According to the newspaper sources, the Israeli army is recruiting in the reserves with trauma and mental illnesses, even as they undergoing treatment, and it recruits soldiers who were removed from service due to their mental illness.
9 thousand psychiatric patients
The newspaper pointed out, quoting its sources, that the occupation army is recruiting people with mental illnesses to fight in the reserves due to the lack of soldiers, noting that the number of soldiers receiving treatment from mental illness since the war began exceeds 9 thousand.
In May, a study prepared by a research team from the Israeli University of Tel Aviv revealed that about 12% of the Israeli army reserve soldiers who participated in the extermination in the Gaza Strip suffer from severe symptoms of post -traumatic turmoil that make them inappropriate to return to military service.
With an American support, Israel has committed since October 7, 2023 genocide crimes in Gaza, which left more than 174,000 Palestinians between a martyr and a wounded, most of them children and women, and more than 11 thousand missing, as well as hundreds of thousands of displaced people.
