The Director General of the Palestinian Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip, Dr. Munir Al -Barash, said that the Israeli occupation kills the embryos in the wombs of their mothers in Gaza, through the siege that prevents the arrival of supplements and basic drugs.
In statements to the island, he explained that the blockade that prevents the entry of nutrients and supplements led to the birth of 144 children with dangerous birth defects, as some of them were born without a brain, and uninterrupted organs.
Al -Barash emphasized that this tragedy could have been avoided by simple procedures, which is to allow the entry of the “folic acid” that pregnant women need, and added, “The occupation practices mass killing of the Palestinian people, at a time when the world is looking at the killing of our children and the distortion of fetuses in the wombs of our women.”
In a related context, Al -Barsh revealed that more than 70% of newborns in Gaza come to life as premature (incomplete) children, which puts them in front of huge health challenges from the first moments of their lives, in light of a severe shortage of incubators and specialized medicines for children’s care.
According to the medical director, Gaza is witnessing an unprecedented crisis in the field of ophthalmology, as 1500 people have lost their eyes, either one eye or eyes lost, while 4000 others face the risk of visual loss “for very simple reasons”, which is the lack of basic medical supplies.
Tragic circumstances
Al -Barash pointed out that Al -Ayoun Hospital in Gaza has become the only facility specialized in treating eye diseases for all residents of the Strip, and was the first hospital that was destroyed by the Israeli occupation, and it was rebuilt and rehabilitated for this service.
He drew attention to the tragic conditions in which doctors who cannot perform more than two or 3 operations during the day, due to the lack of medical equipment, medicines, helium or microscopic.
With regard to chronic diseases, Al -Barsh revealed wholesale deaths among patients with chronic diseases in Gaza, and a example of the patients with Thalassemia (one of the anemia) disease, hemophilia, and dialysis patients, 40% of whom died.
Dr. Al -Barash warned that the Israeli siege imposed on Gaza would lead to “the death of all these civilians,” explaining that the collapses begin with fragile groups, children’s categories and the elderly groups.
This warning comes at a time when the Israeli occupation continues to suffocate to the Gaza Strip, while cutting water, electricity, medicine and food for more than 2.4 million Palestinians, in circumstances that international organizations described as amounting to war crimes.
