The controversy continues in Israel regarding the statements of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in which he said that the victory in the war is more important than restoring the prisoners, and according to analysts, his statements are consistent with the government’s intentions to escalate the military operation in the Gaza Strip.

Netanyahu said while celebrating what is known as Independence Day a few days ago that the prisoners’ restoration is an important goal, but he added that achieving victory is the most important goal.

Immediately, the families of the prisoners attacked Netanyahu after these statements, stressing that the restoration of those present in Gaza should be the supreme goal that moves the government, as the mother of the prisoner Mattan Ainaf confirmed that “her goal has become the overthrow of Netanyahu and his bloody government.”

The former prisoner Sharon Konio – who is still her husband in Gaza – also expressed her shock and fear after Netanyahu’s words, who is in line with the talk of the Minister of Finance in Saltel Smotrich, in which he said a few days ago that the prisoners are not a priority for Israel.

Netanyahu is in line with Smotrich

Konio said that in recent months, Netanyahu has repeated that military pressure was aimed at restoring the prisoners, “Then here is today it shows in line with Smutrich,” adding, “I have an indescribable fear, and I feel that they are throwing my husband to dogs.”

In the context, the former head of the Military Intelligence Division, Amos Malik, stressed that Netanyahu confirmed at the end of last year the dismantling of 24 of the Islamic Resistance Movement Brigades (Hamas), then his new defense minister, Yisrael Katz, announced that the movement was defeated in terms of organizational. “Why are you fabricating a new military operation, then?” He asked.

“Do you know what is the victory? If you are unable to achieve victory, go to your homes, because the victory is first by restoring the kidnapped (prisoners).”

As for the former spokesman for the army, Avi Benihau, he expected that the matter may roll into a war without meaning, as happened in Lebanon in 1982, and he said that Israel may find itself in a war that does not know why it continues or when it will end.

Benihaho pointed out that the advisor to the Minister of Strategic Affairs, Ron Dermer, said that the war will end after 12 months, and asked, “Do you prolong the war until the date of the elections? Is Dermer’s mission to preserve the government?” He stressed that the Minister of National Security Intar bin Ghaffir returned to the government after they pledged to him that the war would continue.

Widening the war

In turn, the correspondent of political affairs at Channel 12, Yaron Abraham, said that during the past months, Netanyahu has been keen to put the prisoners’ restoration and victory in the war in one position, but he has now shown a gradual importance.

Abraham revealed that the government is currently heading towards expanding the military operation in Gaza, including land incursion and the occupation of more lands, adding that wide summons may be issued to the reserve soldiers.

He stressed that the Minister of Defense and Chief of Staff, is sincere on the plans that require Netanyahu’s approval. “We are not in front of a wide wild operation in Gaza,” he added, noting that the army “provided several options to escalate operations, but it has not provided a comprehensive operation yet, because it leaves room for negotiations.”

Earlier today, Saturday, the Al -Qassam Brigades – the Hamas military wing – published a registered clip of an Israeli prisoner with severe injuries, who said that he and his colleague had been bombed twice since the war resumes about two months ago.
