The head of the “Shin Fein” party in Northern Ireland, Diklan Kerney, called on the international community to impose comprehensive sanctions on the Israeli occupation and prohibit arms sales to it, and to take decisive measures against what he described as “genocide” and “racist separation system” that the Palestinian people are exposed to by Israel.
In an interview with Al -Jazeera Net, Kirney stressed that the Palestinian crisis represents a flagrant violation of international law and basic human rights, holding Western powers responsible for the failure to stop these violations.
Diklan Kerney is an Irish politician, born in 1964, and is currently the head of the National “Sheen Fein” party, a member of the Legislative Assembly on the southern INTIREM since 2016, and previously held the position of executive minister in Northern Ireland (2020-2022).
The apartheid
“The peoples of the Middle East have been deprived of a long time of their basic human rights, including the right to self -determination,” said the head of the “Shin Vin” party. Stressing that “the horrific destruction of the Palestinian people is a crime against our global humanity.”
Kirney pointed out that the international community, instead of confronting Israeli violations, helped Tel Aviv by allowing the continuation of the illegal occupation, annexation, and apartheid policies. He added that “Western powers, such as the United States, Germany and Britain, intervene to defend human rights and international law is a horrific tragedy and an attack on human dignity.”
Pressure
The former minister in the Northern Ireland government stressed that the commission of war crimes against the Palestinian people will only end when the international community isolates Israel and stops arming it and financing the killing machine, indicating that “Shin Finn” in Ireland believes in the necessity of imposing comprehensive economic and political sanctions and a ban on weapons on Israel.
Kirney called for a ban on arms sales to Israel as a way to pressure it to stop “war crimes” against the Palestinians. “The boycott, withdrawal of investments and penalties are the only effective mechanisms to end these atrocities,” he said.
“We in Ireland will not be reluctant until the genocide, the system of apartheid, torture and occupation in Palestine end,” he said. He added, “We will continue to use all the means available to us to defend the rights of the Palestinian people effectively.”
Middle East region
In addition to his support for the Palestinian issue, the Northern Irish politician stressed the need to achieve peace in the Middle East as a whole, and to reach peaceful solutions to conflicts in the region, stressing that dialogue and constructive participation are the main key to achieving regional stability.
He said that “achieving peace, democracy and political stability in the Middle East cannot take place through militarization and war crimes, but rather through comprehensive dialogue and diplomacy, and the creation of a sovereign Palestinian state whose capital is East Jerusalem.”
Kirney concluded his statements to Al -Jazeera Net by emphasizing the need to adhere to the United Nations Charter to resolve the crisis in the Middle East, stressing that respect for international law is the basic condition for building a peaceful and just future in the region.
