Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas called, during an event to commemorate the “Nakba” at the United Nations yesterday, Thursday, to make more efforts to end the war in Gaza, similar to the mass displacement that accompanied the Nakba to the current conflict.

The permanent representative of the State of Palestine to the United Nations, Riyad Mansour, delivered a speech on behalf of President Abbas, in which he valued the historic United Nations resolution to commemorate the Nakba of Palestine in 1948.

In the speech, Abbas called for “more efforts to end the war in the Gaza Strip”, similar to the mass displacement that accompanied the Israeli conflict, adding. “History is not erased, and justice does not fall into statute of limitations.”

He continued, “We stand today in front of you not only to revive this sad anniversary, but to renew the covenant that the Nakba has not and will not be an inevitable and permanent destiny for our people.”

Abbas considered that “what the Israeli occupation forces have been doing 19 months ago, on a scene and hearing from the whole world, are genocide crimes, and the destruction and starvation of fully pillars, with the aim of displacing our people from the Gaza Strip, in addition to the crime of continuing to steal the land of the State of Palestine in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.”

The Palestinian President stressed that “it is time for a real and effective international movement to stop this historical injustice and the ongoing tragedy that has become a stigma in the forehead of humanity.”

The United Nations Committee concerned with the practice of the Palestinian people for their unusual rights, with the assistance of the Palestinian Rights Division, marked the 77th anniversary of the Nakba at the organization’s headquarters in New York.

Since 2023, the United Nations commemorates the “Nakba” anniversary when about 700,000 Palestinians were displaced with the announcement of the establishment of Israel in 1948.

And Palestinians see the commemoration of this year a history that restores itself in Gaza and the occupied West Bank.

The United Nations General Assembly is scheduled to hold a conference next June to mobilize efforts towards moving forward with a solution to the establishment of two states, to be organized under the auspices of French -Saudi.

“Peace requires tangible and always progressive progress towards a two -state solution, ending the occupation, and establishing an independent Palestinian state that is an integral part of Gaza,” said Khaled Khakari, Assistant Secretary -General of the United Nations for Middle East and Asia, and the Hadi.
