In a statement to Al -Jazeera – the director of Al -Ayoun Hospital in Gaza, Dr. Abdel Salam Sabah, confirmed that the number of those who lost their eyesight in the Gaza Strip as a result of the Israeli war exceeds 1500 people, the number announced by the Ministry of Health in Gaza.

Dr. Sabah said that 1500 lost sight in both eyes or in one eye, and most of them are children and youth, as a result of direct injuries in the eyes with fragments of explosions and explosive belts used by the Israeli occupation forces, or because of complications of chronic diseases that have not been treated and subject to surgeries and medical operations, for severe and severe shortage of medical supplies.

He pointed out that thousands of Gazans are threatened with visual loss temporarily or permanently due to injuries resulting from the Israeli aggression and chronic diseases, such as sugary retinopathy and retinal separation caused by injuries and many diseases.

The director of Al -Ayoun Hospital in Gaza warned that El -Ayoun patients are vulnerable to visual loss in the coming period unless the necessary treatments and surgeries are available, which will constitute a humanitarian catastrophe against these patients.

He said that in the current period they only have the medical advice and advice to the patient.

He called on all charitable and humanitarian institutions and those concerned with health affairs to accelerate the help of a helping hand to the people of the Gaza Strip, including Al -Ayoun Hospital, and to provide medical and diagnostic devices that were destroyed by the Israeli occupation in its continuous aggression.

The Ministry of Health in Gaza said that Al -Ayoun Hospital is about to lose the ability to provide any surgical services in light of the lack of medicines and equipment, and a surgical supervisor at El -Ayoun Hospital, Yasser Radi, told Al -Jazeera that they can hardly treat some emergency cases. He said that there are neither devices nor medical supplies for network operations.

According to Al -Jazeera correspondent, Moamen Sharafi, Al -Ayoun Hospital is the only one who works throughout the Gaza Strip, and suffers from a large shortage of medical devices, equipment and medicines, and he said that the scissors used in surgical operations are no longer available in the hospital.
