Today, Monday, a former Israeli general called on the Israelis to go out to the streets and change the government, warning of an “existential internal threat” that exceeds the seriousness of Hamas or any external opponent, in an article that sparked widespread controversy in political and military circles inside Israel.

In an article published by the Haaretz newspaper today, under the title “We will not defeat Hamas, and the hostages and soldiers will die, and this is just the beginning if we do not resist”, the retired general, Isaac Brik, criticized the political and military leadership, accusing it of separating reality and using the army for “Christian” political purposes at the expense of state security.

Brick, who had previously held high positions, including the soldier’s complaints, said that Israel is going through a “public national deficit”, warning that the continuation of the war in Gaza will only lead to a comprehensive catastrophe, which begins with the battlefield and does not end at the future of the state.

He added: “Our leaders are not rational. They sacrifice the lives of soldiers and hostages to serve their agendas,” calling for a broad popular move, and stressed that “salvation will not come from the leaders, but from the street alone, and the exit of millions is able to save Israel from the collapse.”

The general drew a bleak picture of the future of Israel in the event of the war continued, based on the death of the hostages inside the Gaza tunnels, the high number of deaths and wounded among the soldiers, the increase in the army’s inability to defeat Hamas, and the collapse of Israel’s military image abroad.

He also warned of the erosion of the Israeli deterrence in front of the regional opponents, such as Iran, Hezbollah and the Houthis, and the escalation of the threat to a long war of attrition, as well as the deterioration of relations with the United States, especially if the Democratic Party, which may stop military support, wins.

Brick expected that Israel would face an economic collapse and a deep social crisis, which may lead to a civil war, amid the disintegration of vital state institutions, from education and health to the army.

The general concluded his article by saying: “We are a nation of fools. We are exploited and do not protect ourselves. The continuation of the current situation means collapse. Any other government will be better than this fake government that runs Israel today.”
