Tunisian director Kawthar Ben Haniyeh is about to complete a new feature film that embodies the story of the Palestinian girl, Hind Ragab, who was killed in Gaza when she was five years old, in an incident that shook public opinion and sparked widespread condemnation at the international level.

The film is filmed in Tunisia and is supervised by Nadim Sheikh Rouh, the producer known as “Four Daughters”, alongside Odessa Ray, the producer of the movie “Navalny”, and James Wilson, “The Zone of Interest”. The project is supported by the British company “Film 4”.

The film monitors the details of the martyrdom of the Palestinian girl, as she remained besieged inside the car she was carrying and her family for hours, as she is trying to communicate with the Palestinian Red Crescent to seek help, before being found after the withdrawal of the Israeli occupation forces.

How did Hind Ragab become a symbol of the tragedy of the war in Gaza?

The Palestinian girl, Hind Ragab, turned into a painful human symbol of the consequences of the war in Gaza, after she was killed during her family’s attempt to flee the city, in one of the most incidents that embodied the cruelty of the continuous conflict since the “Al -Aqsa Flood” operation in October 2023.

On January 29, 2024, the Hind car was shot while fleeing, killing her uncle, her uncle and 3 of her cousins, while Hind remained stuck inside the car for hours, trying to survive and communicate with the Palestinian Red Crescent Society over the phone, while the paramedics were racing against time to reach it.

But on February 10, after the occupation forces withdrew from the area, Hind was found alongside her family members and paramedics who were killed while trying to save her.

Although Israel denied the responsibility at the beginning, investigations conducted by several independent bodies, including international newspapers and research organization, revealed that Israeli tanks were in the region and are likely to have shot the car, and the ambulance that came to save the girl was targeted.

The tragedy of Hind sparked widespread international anger, as a group of students at the University of Colombia renamed university buildings in its name, referring to the pain that her story reflects on many around the world.

Al -Jazeera documents the last moments of Hind Ragab’s life

The Qatari Al -Jazeera channel documented the painful story of the killing of the Palestinian girl, Hind Ragab, in a documentary entitled “The Night Won’t End”, as part of the series “FAULT LINES”. The film deals with war crimes in Gaza through the novels of 4 Palestinian families, including the Hind family, who lost her 6 -year -old girl in January 2024 during the Israeli aggression.

The documentary focuses on the last moments of the life of Hind, which remained besieged inside her family’s car between the bodies of her relatives, and documents her influential phone call to the Palestinian Red Crescent Society, where she was innocent. The film also reveals the difficulties faced by the ambulance while trying to reach them, as they were subjected to direct shooting by the Israeli army, which led to their martyrdom and left the bodies on the site without taking place for days.

The film also includes live testimonies from her mother and employees of the Red Crescent, in addition to the analyzes of jurists who confirmed the collapse of international law in light of the tragic events that took place in Gaza. This documentary has become an important reference to understand the humanitarian repercussions of the conflict in the region.

Kawthar Bin Haniyeh .. A human voice is renewed in international cinema

In her new novelist work, Tunisian director Kawthar Bin Haniyeh shed light on the tragedy of the Palestinian girl, Hind Ragab, who was killed in Gaza, introducing her story in a global cinematic framework. This project represents a new station in the march of Bin Haniyeh, which is one of the most prominent cinematic voices in the Arab world, and is known for its excitement of deep humanitarian issues.

The star of Ben Haniyeh, Arab and international, has shined through the movie “Becky and the Dogs”, which represented Tunisia in the 2018 Academy Awards, and relied on a true story of a girl facing a repressive system after being raped.

Then she continued her brilliance with the movie “The Man Who Sold His Skin” in 2020, which was an Oscar’s official nomination for the best international movie, achieving unprecedented success for Tunisian and Arab cinema.

As for her documentary “Four Daughters”, she dealt with the Tunisian reality through the story of a mother who lost her two daughters in favor of extremism, in an artistic style that mixes the novelist and the documentary, which qualified him to reach the short list of Oscars for the year 2024.

Through her work, Bin Haniyeh asserts that cinema is not just a reflection of reality, but rather a powerful tool for resistance and change, and a voice that carries the suffering of the forgotten people to global platforms.
