A member of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization, Ahmed Majdalani, announced today, Tuesday, that Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas will discuss with Lebanese officials during his visit to Beirut tomorrow, Wednesday, the issue of weapons in the Palestinian camps.

“Of course, the Palestinian weapon in the camps will be one of the issues on the discussion schedule between President Abbas and the Lebanese President (Joseph Aoun) and the Lebanese government,” said Majdalani, who will be among the delegation accompanying Abbas.

Since Aoun, the Lebanese authorities announced the arrival of the presidency last January their intention to implement international decisions that stipulate the inventory of weapons in Lebanon in the hands of the legitimate forces.

Majdalani said that Abbas’s visit to Lebanon “is important and comes in light of the regional developments in the region … and Lebanon in a new era finds support and support for Arab and American.”

He added, “What matters to us in the new era in the region is not to be part of the internal interactions in Lebanon, and that the Palestinian issue is not employed to serve any of the parties.”

He pointed out that Abbas is “a previous position on the issue of the Palestinian weapon in Lebanon since 2010, and it is considered that this weapon must be a positive factor in ensuring security and civil peace in Lebanon.”

The number of Palestinian refugees residing in crowded camps in Lebanon is estimated at about 250,000, and they often live in miserable conditions, and are prevented from working in several sectors.

Under a long -term agreement, the Palestinian factions are responsible for security in the camps that the Lebanese army is refraining from entering.

The Lebanese President stressed – in an interview with the Egyptian channel “On TV”, on Sunday – that “the exclusive weapon must be in the hands of the state, the decision of war and peace in its hands.”

He added, “I speak not only about the Lebanese weapons, but about the non -Lebanese weapons, the Palestinian weapon in the camps,” explaining, “I am waiting for President Abbas’s visit to discuss it.”

He said that the Lebanese army dismantled 6 Palestinian training camps, “three in the Bekaa (east), one in southern Beirut, and two in the north”, and “weapons were confiscated and all facilities were destroyed, and the area became empty.”

Since November 27, 2024, the date of the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hezbollah entered into force in Lebanon, after a bloody confrontation that lasted for more than a year against the background of the war in the Gaza Strip, the Lebanese authorities have been shown to extend their control over the entire Lebanese territories.

The ceasefire agreement, which was reached between Israel and the party under the auspices of a French -French, stipulated the dismantling of Hezbollah and the implementation of international resolution 1701, which provides for the disarmament of all illegal armed groups.
