The deteriorating health situation in the Gaza Strip warns of a humanitarian catastrophe in light of the suffocating siege imposed by the Israeli occupation, which led to the martyrdom of many patients and the injured and put the population on the brink of starvation, says Chest Surgery consultant Dr. Ihab Masad, who is newly returning from Gaza.
In an interview with Al -Jazeera, Masad said that he returned from the Strip five days ago, and that he had appointed himself a tragic situation among civilians, especially the children who show the beginnings of famine clearly.
With the depletion of stocks and the prevention of the introduction of medical supplies and fuel, hospitals are no longer able to deal with the large number of injured and patients who reach them daily, according to Masad, who confirmed that many died because of this situation.
A health disaster and famine
Hospitals, according to Ihab Masad, resort to primitive sterilization methods during the operations, which led to the death of many cases during the recovery phase.
The major crisis is In the spread of large numbers of children looking for water and food in the streets and between the rubble without control.
Many of these children suffer the beginning of famine, and they live in a difficult health situation, as well as diseases caused by the lack of hygiene as obtaining water is a dilemma in the sector, according to Masad.
Despite this catastrophic type, Masad says that he has seen many children who sell some materials to provide other things that help their families to continue life in light of the famine that hangs over the sector.
The Al -Jazeera correspondent in the Gaza Strip, Anas Al -Sharif, conveyed painful pictures of dozens of children in the patient’s friends hospital due to the lack of liability. The hospital director said that the conditions of children have become tragic during the past two months.
Warning
The hospital director warned that the continuation of the current conditions would lead to extensive deaths among children, calling on the world to intervene to save the sector from famine.
The Government Information Office in Gaza confirmed yesterday, Monday, that the hospitals will collapse within 48 hours because the occupation prevented the entry of fuel into international institutions operating in the sector.
He added in a statement that “the crime of systematic occupation by preventing fuel from arriving in hospitals is a flagrant violation of international law and a flagrant violation of the Geneva Conventions,” stressing that the collapse of the care and nurseries departments and operating rooms warns of an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe.
The Office called on health and humanitarian institutions to move to save the health system in the sector and thousands of lives that have been on the brink of death, noting that more than 57 children have died due to malnutrition since the war resumes two months ago.
