Israeli Army Chief of Staff, Eyal Zamir, said today, Sunday, that the army called for reserve forces to expand the military operation in the Gaza Strip, while Israeli media indicated that the soldiers evaded the service. This coincides with the martyrdom of at least 24 Palestinians in the Israeli bombing of Gaza since dawn today.
According to a statement by the Israeli army today, Sunday, Zamir said: “We export tens of thousands of summoning orders to reserve soldiers to expand the operation in Gaza.”
He added: “We intensify pressure with the aim of returning the kidnappers and resolving the battle against Hamas.”
For his part, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in a video recording today, Sunday, that fierce battles are still taking place in the Gaza Strip, noting that the army was adopting the killing of two of its soldiers.
He added that there are efforts to “restore the kidnapped and subjugate Hamas”, denouncing invitations to disobedience in Israel, which he said encouraged by the enemies.
On March 18, the Israeli army resumed the war of extermination in Gaza – according to the description of international experts – after it was dismissed from the ceasefire agreement concluded last January.
The Israeli army sought to divide the besieged sector into several regions and isolate them from each other, and destroyed most buildings and installations in the city of Rafah, in the southern Gaza Strip.
Soldiers evaded
Meanwhile, Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper quoted a reserve soldier as saying that a large number of soldiers have been evading military service recently and looking for excuses to avoid them.
For his part, Israeli opposition leader Yair Lapid said in a post on X that the Netanyahu government decided to expand the war “at a time when the army suffers from a shortage of soldiers that led him to summon reserve soldiers who had previously served hundreds of days.”
Lapid said that “Israel has a Shaban … the first is fighting and killing in the war while the other evades the military service.”
He pointed out that, since the beginning of the war, the army issued about 19,000 recruitment orders for Israelis from the religious, the Haredim, and only 232 of them committed to them, stressing that they are evading the service “because the government allows them to do so and pay them money.”
