This is a new setback inflicted on supporters of aid to Ukraine. The Republicans in the House of Representatives refused to examine a law which notably provides for the sending of an envelope of 60 billion dollars to kyiv.
To be adopted, this envelope must be approved in the Senate, then in the House of Representatives. But according to Mike Johnson, leader of the Republicans in the House of Representatives, the text negotiated by the senators would not be examined as it stands.
For months, in Congress, elected officials have been torn apart on this subject. The Republicans are asking, in exchange for the adoption of aid to Ukraine, to strengthen the border between the United States and Mexico.
The race for the White House has begun and Donald Trump is still popular. On several occasions, the Republican candidate opposed any aid from Washington in favor of kyiv.
