The families of those kidnapped by Hamas have filed a complaint with the International Criminal Court for “crimes against humanity”.
There were around a hundred of them, gathered under the gray sky of The Hague, in the Netherlands, on Wednesday, to file a complaint with the International Criminal Court. The jurisdiction, created by the UN but independent, can prosecute individuals.
Around 250 people were kidnapped during the Islamist militia’s attack on Israel on October 7. According to Israeli government figures, 130 people are still detained in Gaza and 29 are believed to have died.
The hostages’ relatives have a feeling of injustice: “Since October 7, we have the feeling that there is no justicedeplores Sharon Kalderon, the sister-in-law of a hostage. The people of Hamas injured, murdered, raped us.”
Israel accused again at ICJ
For its part, South Africa has filed a new appeal against Israel to prevent “a new violation of rights” after the announcement of a military offensive on Rafah, in the south of the Gaza Strip.
This approach is taking place this time before the International Court of Justice, another jurisdiction also based in The Hague. Pretoria had already filed a complaint against Israel with the ICJ for “genocide“.
