The Belize-flagged ship hit by a strike by Yemen’s Houthis last month sank in the Red Sea on Saturday after several days of taking on water. It was the first ship to be completely destroyed by the rebels.

A drone shot down by the Italian navy

The Italian navy destroyer Duilio also shot down a drone launched by the Houthis on Saturday evening using its 76 mm cannon. The drone, with characteristics similar to those already used in previous attacks, was about six kilometers from the Italian ship, heading towards it.

The Italian Navy destroyer intervenes as part of the emerging European operation “Aspides” under the direction of Rear Admiral Stefano Costantino.

It was the first direct attack on an Italian naval vessel by the Houthis, who until now had only carried out raids against US and British military ships.
