Qatar, Egypt, and the United States called on the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) and Israel to conclude an agreement that embodies the principles outlined by President Joe Biden in his speech yesterday, Friday.
A tripartite statement said: “Qatar, the Arab Republic of Egypt and the United States of America collectively, as mediators in the ongoing discussions to ensure a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and the release of hostages and detainees, call on both Hamas and Israel to conclude an agreement that embodies the principles outlined by President Biden on May 31.” 2024″.
The joint statement continued by saying, “These principles bring together the demands of all parties in a deal that serves multiple interests, and would immediately end the long suffering of all residents of Gaza, as well as the long suffering of the hostages and their families.”
According to the tripartite statement, this agreement provides “a roadmap for a permanent ceasefire and ending the crisis.”
Biden’s determinants
Yesterday, the American President spoke about a new Israeli proposal to reach a truce and prisoner exchange deal with Hamas, and called on Israel to move forward in this direction.
He explained that the first phase will last 6 weeks, and includes “a complete and complete ceasefire, the withdrawal of Israeli forces from all populated areas in Gaza, the release of a number of hostages, including women, the elderly and the wounded, and in return the release of hundreds of Palestinian prisoners.”
Biden pointed out that the Israeli and Palestinian sides will negotiate a permanent ceasefire during those six weeks, but the truce will continue if the talks remain ongoing.
