Qatar calls on the Security Council to oblige Israel not to change the historical and legal status in Jerusalem News

The State of Qatar strongly condemned the decision of the Israeli occupation authorities to confiscate Palestinian lands in the Silwan area in occupied East Jerusalem with the aim of building a cable car, and considered the decision a blatant violation of the principles and provisions of international law and the relevant resolutions of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

In a statement today, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs called on the UN Security Council to assume its responsibilities to oblige Israel to stop its measures aimed at changing the historical and legal status of the city of Jerusalem. It also warned against the Israeli occupation exploiting the international community’s preoccupation with developments in the Gaza Strip to pass unilateral decisions that violate the rights of the Palestinian people.

The Ministry stressed that the Israeli decision would hinder reaching a two-state solution, as it is the only way to achieve sustainable peace in the region.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated the State of Qatar’s firm position on the justice of the Palestinian issue, the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, and the establishment of its independent state on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
