Russian President Vladimir Putin warned of the outbreak of an all-out war in the Middle East, while his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, called for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and preventing the “extension of the war” in Lebanon.

Putin – who was sitting next to his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping – said at a BRICS meeting in the Russian city of Kazan on the Volga River, “The fighting that began a year ago in Gaza has now spread to Lebanon.”

He continued, saying, “Other countries in the region have also been affected. The level of confrontation between Israel and Iran is also increasing significantly. It is like a chain reaction and puts the entire Middle East on the brink of all-out war.”

The Russian President stressed that the cycle of violence will not end except with a two-state solution and the establishment of a Palestinian state that coexists peacefully with Israel, stressing the need to stop the violence and provide vital assistance to the victims.

The Russian President added, “The urgent task is undoubtedly to launch a comprehensive political process to solve the problem in the entire Middle East,” describing the tension in the region as a “source of concern” and “an exacerbation of a long-standing conflict.”

For his part, the Chinese President called for a ceasefire between Israel and the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) in the Gaza Strip, and to prevent the expansion of open confrontation between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon.

Xi Jinping said during a speech before the BRICS summit, “We must continue to push for a ceasefire in Gaza, revive the two-state solution, and stop the expansion of the war in Lebanon. There must be no more suffering and destruction in Palestine and Lebanon.”
