Tens of thousands of people gathered around the world in solidarity with the Palestinians in the middle of the brutal war of Israel against Gaza and to mark the ethnic cleaning of the Palestinians of 1948 by Jewish militias, remember like Nakba, or disaster.
The NAKBA led to the permanent mass movement of the Palestinians after the creation of Israel in 1948. Activists say that history is repeated today in Gaza and in occupied West Bank.
In Stockholm, thousands of people gathered in Odenplan Square, responding to calls from various civil society organizations to protest against Israeli attacks against Gaza. The participants agitated Palestinian flags, showed photographs of killed children and wore banners declaring: “Stop the genocide of the Zionist diet in Palestine”.
Many demonstrators wore signs listing the names of civilians killed in Gaza, seeking to highlight the current massacre.
Meanwhile, in London, in the United Kingdom, hundreds of thousands of people walked towards Downing Street, demanding the end of what they described as the Israel genocide in Gaza, 77 years from Nakba. Protesters, some dressed in Keffiyehs and agitation of the Palestinian flags, sang slogans such as “Stop the Genocide in Gaza”, “Palestine Libre” and “Israel is a terrorist state”.
The demonstrators denounced the Israeli blockade of the Gaza Strip, accusing him of deliberately displayed himself by more than two million Palestinians, and criticized the British government for its political and military support of Israel, alleging a complicity in the humanitarian crisis.
In Berlin, Germany, people gathered in Potsdamer Platz to protest against Israeli attacks against Gaza. The demonstrators agitated Palestinian flags and held reading panels: “Your silence is a bond” and “you cannot kill us all”. Women in a traditional dress carrying visuals on the theme of the Nakba were also present.
The event took place in the midst of heavy safety measures, with at least three people who were said to have been held.
A solidarity march took place in Athens, Greece, where demonstrators, adorned in Keffiyehs and carrying Palestinian flags, first paraded at the Embassies of the United States and Israel.
Demonstrations broke out after hundreds of Palestinians have been killed in recent days while Israel intensified his attacks, with the announcement of a new offensive on the ground.
On a global scale, May 15 was observed as the 77th anniversary of the expulsion of 700,000 Palestinians from their homes following the creation of Israel in 1948.
The Israeli army killed 53,272 Palestinians and injured 120,673 since its launch of an offensive on October 7, 2023, according to the Gaza Ministry of Health. The government’s media office has updated the number of deaths at more than 61,700, noting that thousands of people who were still missing under the rubble are presumed dead.
