The Palestinian Prisoners’ Club said on Tuesday that a Palestinian detainee spent 40 years in Israeli prisons and is still imprisoned.
The club added – in a statement – that Muhammad Al-Tous (67 years old) from the village of Al-Jabaa in the West Bank “was arrested on October 6, 1985 on the grounds of his resistance to the occupation and his affiliation to the Fatah movement. He was seriously injured at the time, and the occupation sentenced him to prison.” lifelong”.
The club explained that “Al-Tus is one of the veteran detainees since before the signing of the Oslo Accords, and their number today is 21 prisoners, after the ascension of the martyr Walid Daqqa this year.”
He added that Israel re-arrested “11 of the liberators of the Wafa al-Ahrar deal (the Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit exchange deal), who had been detained since before the signing of the Oslo Accords. They were liberated in 2011 and then re-arrested in 2014.”
He said, “The occupation refused to release Al-Tus in all the exchange deals and releases that took place over the years of his detention, along with his fellow veteran detainees…the most recent of which was in 2014 when the occupation refused to release the fourth batch of veteran detainees at that time, and he was among them.”
The Prisoner’s Club stated – on its Telegram channel – that “the number of prisoners and detainees in the occupation prisons has become more than 10,100, until the beginning of October 2024.”
He added, “The number of administrative detainees is 3,398, and the number of Gaza detainees classified as illegal combatants by the occupation prison administration is 1,618. Note that this figure does not include all Gaza detainees, specifically those in camps run by the occupation army.”
The club stated that “the number of female prisoners whose identities are known is 95, including 3 from Gaza whose identities are known and who are in Damoun prison, while the number of female prisoners administratively detained is 26. The mentioned number of female prisoners does not include all female prisoners from Gaza, and there may be female prisoners in camps affiliated with the occupation.” .
He noted that before October 7 of last year, “the total number of detainees in Israeli prisons was more than 5,250, and the number of female prisoners was 40, while the number of children in prisons was 170 and the number of administrators was about 1,320.”
Israel uses an old British law that allows it to detain Palestinians without trial for periods ranging between 3 and 6 months, which can be renewed, under the pretext of the existence of a secret security file for the detainee.
