Slovenian Prime Minister Robert Golub described the situation in Gaza as catastrophic and witnessing a violation of all human rights laws, stressing that his country will recognize the Palestinian state next month.

In statements she reported CNN, Golub said Europe’s divided positions do not help bring peace.

The leaders of Slovenia, Spain, Ireland and Malta announced, in a joint statement issued last March, that they were ready to recognize the State of Palestine.

In turn, he announced Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said – yesterday, Friday – that he will announce next Wednesday the date for his country’s recognition of the Palestinian state, ruling out that this recognition will take place on May 21, and indicating that coordination is being made in this regard with other countries that he did not specify.

Irish Foreign Minister Michael Martin confirmed earlier that his country would recognize the Palestinian state by the end of this May, without specifying a date for that.

According to Agence France-Presse, the majority of the 193 member states of the United Nations (137 countries according to a Palestinian census) have so far recognized the Palestinian state.
