Poland tops NCSI global cybersecurity rankings


The country, an ally of Ukraine, is often the target of cyberattacks originating from Russia, according to data analyzed by cybersecurity experts.

Regularly targeted by attacks on its computer systems, Poland recently acquired a cyber army to defend itself.

Since then, the country has ranked at the top of the world rankings for cybersecurity.

Our analyzes and the information we receive from our allies and partners indicate that when it comes to DDoS attacks, Poland is one of the most attacked countries in the world, and sometimes, the country even tops the list“, explains Lieutenant Colonel Przemyslaw Lipczynski, Spokesperson for the Cyber ​​Defense Forces.

In August 2023, the Polish railway communications network was the target of a computer attack, which stopped around twenty trains for several hours. According to experts, the majority of these cyberattacks originate from Russia.

The Office of Rail Transport, which deals with regulatory issues in the field of rail transport, is attacked 2,000 times a day. The Russians are basically attacking everything possible. This is “GPS JAM”, the kind of website that shows interference in GPS. If we look at the maps, the only source in the west can only be Kaliningrad“, explains Pawel Makowiec, cybersecurity expert at CyberDefense24.pl.

According to a recent IBM report, Europe was the region in the world most affected by computer attacks in 2023. The continent nevertheless remains well protected in the face of the increase in these threats.

There is an increase in attacks against, for example, academics and NGO workers who focus on reshaping policy. It should be noted that Europe is very well protected. We have different types of legal frameworks that guarantee Member States the sharing of information and legal frameworks that guarantee the same baseline for cybersecurity“, explains Felix Aime, cyberthreat analyst at Sekoia.io.

Last year, the global cost of damage caused by cybercrime was $18 million per minute. According to estimates, this cost will increase, reaching more than 10,000 billion dollars per year by 2025.
