Medical sources told Tel Aviv Tribune on Thursday that Israeli attacks across the Gaza Strip had killed at least 63 Palestinians.
The Gaza government media office gave a higher figure, saying 71 people were killed, including the enclave’s police chief and his deputy, after Israeli military forces carried out 34 airstrikes during of the previous 24 hours.
Israeli attacks have been reported across the besieged enclave, including in the so-called al-Mawasi humanitarian zone and the Jabalia refugee camp in northern Gaza, which has been repeatedly bombed in recent days.
Palestinians were also killed and injured in attacks on the Remal and Shujayea neighborhoods in Gaza City, as well as the town of az-Zawayda in the central Gaza Strip.
Philippe Lazzarini, head of the United Nations agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA), says Israel’s deadly strike on the al-Mawasi displaced camp in southern Gaza is another signal to end to war.
“Earlier this year we received reports of a new attack on al-Mawasi, with dozens of people killed, another reminder that there is no humanitarian zone and even fewer security zone (in Gaza),” he said. “Every day without a ceasefire will lead to more tragedies. »
Asked about the death toll announced Thursday, an Israeli military spokesperson said the army had respected international law in waging war on Gaza and was taking “possible precautions to mitigate the damage caused to civilians.”
Among those killed on Thursday was photojournalist Hassan al-Qishaoui. At least 217 journalists and media workers have been killed in Gaza since October 7, 2023.
