The Philadelphi Corridor is a thorn in the side of negotiations to end the war in the Gaza Strip, as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu insists on controlling the corridor and says that achieving the war’s goals passes through it.
On the other hand, the Israeli security and political establishments do not see the need to keep soldiers on the 14-kilometer-long axis separating the Gaza Strip and Egypt.
In a related context, the White House revealed that it is preparing a proposed agreement whose terms include the withdrawal of Israeli forces – the size of which has not been specified – from sites described as crowded near the corridor, to be presented to the mediators and the two parties upon its completion.
