The Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip announced today, Saturday, the martyrdom of a Palestinian paramedic in Israeli occupation prisons after his arrest from the Nasser Medical Complex in the city of Khan Yunis, south of the Strip, last February.

The ministry said in a statement, coinciding with World First Aid Day, “It has been confirmed that paramedic Hamdan Abu Anaba was martyred inside the occupation’s prisons. He and his colleagues were arrested while performing his work at Nasser Medical Complex.”

The Ministry called on the UN and human rights organizations to reveal the fate of dozens of health workers who were kidnapped from hospitals while performing their humanitarian duty.

The second Saturday of September of each year marks World First Aid Day, which was launched by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies in 2000.

Big toll

Since the beginning of the Israeli war on the Strip, more than 885 medical personnel have been martyred, and 310 others have been arrested, according to previous statements by the Director General of the Ministry of Health in Gaza, Munir al-Barash.

Last February, the Israeli army stormed Nasser Hospital in the southern Gaza Strip and carried out killings and arrests of wounded, sick, displaced persons and medical staff.

With American support, Israel has been waging a devastating war on Gaza since October 7, leaving more than 136,000 Palestinian martyrs and wounded, most of them children and women, and more than 10,000 missing, amidst massive destruction and deadly famine.

In contempt of the international community, Israel continues this war, ignoring the UN Security Council resolution to stop it immediately, and the International Court of Justice’s orders to take measures to prevent acts of genocide and to improve the catastrophic humanitarian situation in Gaza.
