Palestine the most dangerous place in the world for journalists, says RSF | News Israel-Palestine Conflict

US President Donald Trump supervising “disturbing deterioration” in press freedom in the United States, journalists without borders said.

Palestine has become the most dangerous state in the world for journalists in the midst of the War of Israel against Gaza, with dozens of journalists probably killed specifically because of their work, said a Watchdog of media freedom.

Israeli forces killed nearly 200 journalists in the first 18 months of the war, of which at least 42 were killed during their work, said journalists without borders on Friday when he published his global press of the 2025 press.

“Trapped in the enclave, Gaza journalists have no shelter and have everything, including food and water,” said the group based in Paris, also known by its French acronym RSF.

“In the West Bank, journalists are regularly harassed and attacked by Israeli settlers and forces, but repression has reached new heights with a wave of arrests after October 7, when the impunity of crimes committed against journalists has become a new rule.”

Journalists suspected of collaborating with Israel are also hampered in their work by Hamas and Islamic Jihad, while a Cybercrime Act adopted by the Palestinian Authority limits freedom of expression and freedom of the press, said RSF in its report.

Palestine ranked 163rd for Press Freedom in the last index, a drop in six places from 2024.

Out of 180 jurisdictions, 112 saw a drop in press freedom, the average score falling worldwide at a record rate of 55 points, according to the report.

The United States has dropped two places to a record hollow of 57, the guard dog accusing US President Donald Trump of supervising a “disturbing deterioration of press freedom”.

“President Donald Trump was elected to a second term after a campaign during which he denied the press daily and made explicit threats to arm the federal government against the media,” said the RSF.

“His first movements in his second mandate to politicize the Federal Commission Commission (FCC), prohibit the Associated Press of the White House, or dismantle the American agency for the world media, for example, endangered the country’s media and indicates that it intends to continue its threats, to set up a potential crisis for American journalism.”

Israel dropped 112nd places to fall, with journalists without borders pointing to increasing restrictions on press freedom, media plurality and editorial independence since the start of the war in Gaza.

“Since 2021, only journalists working for Channel 14, a media that covers Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, a favorable day, have obtained interviews with the head of the country, who accuses the Israeli consumption press against him,” said the group.

“In 2024, the Minister of Communication called on the government to boycott Haaretz, one of the few newspapers to criticize Netanyahu’s policies, including the massacre of civilians in Gaza – a subject that is largely deleted.”

Eritrea was the least classified jurisdiction, just behind North Korea and China.

Norway was classified first for Press Freedom, followed by Estonia, the Netherlands and Sweden.
