The Israeli army announced this morning that a soldier from the engineering unit of the Golani Brigade was killed and two officers and two other soldiers were wounded during battles in the city of Khan Yunis, south of the Gaza Strip, last night.
He also said – in a statement – that special forces found the body of hostage Elijah Toledano (28 years old), who had been held by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) in the Gaza Strip since the attack of last October 7.
The statement said that medical officials, military rabbis and forensic experts carried out “identification procedures” for the hostage who was taken by Hamas gunmen from a music festival in the Gaza Strip during the attack, according to Israeli media.
Yesterday, the Al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of the Hamas movement, announced the killing of at least 10 Israeli officers and soldiers in the battles of Shujaiya in the Gaza Strip.
It also said that its fighters were able, within 72 hours, to kill 36 Israeli soldiers, cause dozens of other soldiers to be killed or wounded, seize the equipment and belongings of some of them, and destroy 72 Israeli military vehicles.
Abu Ubaida, spokesman for the Al-Qassam Brigades, said that this happened after targeting the invading Israeli forces with missiles and anti-fortification devices and individuals, clashing with them from a distance of zero, and targeting their rescue teams, in addition to the carried out sniper operations.
Until now, the Israeli army has acknowledged the killing of 117 and the injury of 600 of its members since the start of the ground incursion into the Gaza Strip late last October, while Israeli media sources estimated the number of injured among its ranks at about 5,000.
