A Palestinian cartoonist whose name is associated with the character “Hanthala”, then confronted the world with a torrent of revolutionary and critical drawings. On the anniversary of his death, learn about his mark on the history of the Palestinian popular resistance.

He was born in Palestine and raised in Lebanon. He began his journey with drawing inside a prison cell, criticizing the occupation, oppression and tyranny. His drawings were the reason for his fame and were also the reason for his death.

He drew nearly 40,000 caricatures during his artistic career. His drawings were characterised by boldness, frankness, and touching on people’s concerns and the trends of the Arab street.

Naji al-Ali died on August 29, 1987 in London from a bullet wound, and was buried in London.
