On Friday, Palestinian Minister of Women’s Affairs, Mona Al-Khalili, sent an urgent appeal on behalf of the women of Palestine to stop the war of genocide committed by Israel, and to protect women in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.
This came from the United Nations headquarters in New York, on the eve of the Palestinian National Women’s Day, corresponding to October 26 of each year, according to what was reported by the official Palestinian news agency, Wafa.
Tomorrow marks the world’s celebration of the 24th anniversary of the issuance of Security Council Resolution 1325 on women, peace and security, according to Wafa.
In her appeal, Al-Khalili pointed to “the repercussions that directly affect women in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, including Jerusalem, and the systematic killing, arrest, and exposure of female prisoners to the ugliest forms of psychological and physical violence, and deprivation of the most basic requirements of daily life in the Gaza Strip.”
She said, “We, the women of Palestine, urge the international community to work seriously and immediately to provide all our protection requirements, end the illegal occupation of our land, and guarantee our legitimate and inalienable rights, including the right to self-determination.”
It called for “immediate intervention to stop the Israeli aggression and crimes against the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, including Jerusalem, and to stop all measures of ethnic cleansing, war crimes, and crimes against humanity, which mainly target women, children, the sick, the elderly, and people with disabilities.”
She called for pressure on Israel to release Palestinian female detainees, especially the sick and minors, and to take immediate measures to stop settler terrorism.
Since October 7, 2023, Israel has been waging a genocide in the Gaza Strip that left more than 143,000 Palestinians dead and wounded, most of them children and women, and more than 10,000 missing, amid massive destruction and famine that killed dozens of children and the elderly, in one of the worst humanitarian disasters in the world. .
Two weeks ago, Israel launched a barbaric aggression against the northern Gaza Strip, resulting in the death of more than 400 Palestinians and the demolition of large areas of buildings and infrastructure.
