Omani doctor Dr. Khaled Al-Shamousi spoke to Al-Jazeera Net about the seriousness of the situation in the city of Rafah, south of the Gaza Strip, since the Israeli occupation forces began their attack on the eastern neighborhoods of the city last Monday.
Dr. Al-Shamousi, an assistant professor at the College of Medicine at Sultan Qaboos University in the Sultanate of Oman and a consultant in gastroenterology and advanced endoscopy, refused to leave Rafah despite the start of the Israeli attack, and insisted on staying to treat the sick and injured after the occupation destroyed most of the hospitals and health facilities in the Strip.
Dr. Al-Shamousi said – in a video message from the European Gaza Hospital in Rafah – that the area is under continuous bombardment, and that the situation is volatile after the occupation forces took control of the Rafah crossing, the only land outlet from the Gaza Strip to the outside world.
He also spoke about the tragedy of the widespread displacement of the population, and said that many families are now living in the open, most of whom are children and women who lack basic means of living, such as water and food, and even toilets are not available for most of the displaced, according to him.
Several medical delegations had left Gaza through the Rafah crossing before the occupation forces took control of it, but Dr. Khaled Al-Shamousi refused to leave and wrote on the X platform last Tuesday, “The Jews took over the Rafah crossing. Praise be to God, we are now with the people of Gaza, living with them and dying with them ( Life is their life and death is their death.”
My life is not more precious than the life of any child in Gaza.
The Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, said: “Muslims are rewarded for their blood, and the lowest among them seek their protection, and they are a hand against everyone else.”
