At least four people, including three children, have died in floods that hit Oman.

Rescuers found the bodies near the town of Rustaq, in the north of the country.

Torrential rains fell on the sultanate at the start of the week.

Rivers burst their banks, water cut roads and isolated villages from the rest of the country.

A Euronews correspondent was among the stranded motorists near Nizwa, the former capital of Oman.

Zoltán Siposhegyi – Euronews correspondent in Hungary: “If the rain doesn’t stop, the water level will rise and we will get stuck here.”

The authorities of the Sultanate of Oman have declared Monday a non-working day.

Several flights to Oman were canceled, schools and offices were closed on Tuesday and the population was asked not to leave their homes unless there was a compelling reason.

The storm passed, but this Wednesday the Muscat souk continued to be partially flooded.
