Former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has sparked widespread controversy with his recent statements about the future of Israel. In a press conference, Olmert warned of the possibility of a civil war breaking out between religious and secular people in Israel.
Olmert added – during a segment of the program “Above Authority”, predicting a dangerous shift inside Israel: “A day will come when those who are killing Palestinians now in the West Bank will shoot at us, when they see that we are taking actions that include returning the holy lands for which they are fighting,” and he concluded his statements by calling on the audience to “record this speech and remember it one day.”
These statements reveal the existence of deep divisions within Israeli society that may lead to severe internal conflicts, and raise questions about Israel’s future and its ability to survive in the face of increasing external and internal challenges.
