Israeli officials and senior Israeli army officers criticized the appointment of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, General David Zaini, as head of the Internal Security Service (Shin Bet), and invited him to resign, while former heads of the agency called for the appointment of a transitional president.

The Israeli channel 13 quoted the Israeli army officers as saying that “decorating is inappropriate for the presidency of the Shin Bet and some of us asked him to resign.”

It also quoted them as saying that the president’s dismissed president, Ronin Bar, informed his aides that he would remain in his position if there was no candidate due to legal matters.

In turn, the Israeli public radio quoted the former Israeli chief of staff, Gadi Eisenkot, as saying that the appointment of a young president in wartime turned into a farce.

Eisenkot joined the demands of Zeni’s resignation, and said, “I invite Zeni to have responsibility and rejected the position of the Shin Bet, because his appointment is taking place from distorted considerations.”

For its part, the Haaretz newspaper indicated that the judicial counselor recommended that a new head of the Shabak was not appointed until legal rules were established that guarantee the procedure of procedures.

The Israeli Broadcasting Corporation said that the army leadership was surprised by the decision of Netanyahu to appoint a new chief of the Shabak, and received the announcement in disapproval, noting that the Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir was just 3 minutes before the announcement of the Netanyahu office to appoint Zeni as head of the Shabak, and he was not familiar with the decision and did not participate in it, and Netanyahu did not consult with him.
