The decision today by Spain, Norway, and Ireland to officially recognize the Palestinian state invaded social media platforms, with activists describing the decision as a “historic event.”

The three countries confirmed that, starting on May 28, they will recognize the Palestinian state, and this decision was met with Palestinian welcome and great Israeli anger.

“At a time when Palestine is gaining its legitimacy, Israel is losing its support,” a tweet came from the heart of Gaza, where activists from the Gaza Strip welcomed this decision, and considered it a positive step after all these sacrifices, and that they would not allow the Palestinian issue to be folded.

Some activists found that the decision of the three countries would constitute major transformations, especially since it came from the heart of Europe, and one of them said: “An implicit recognition of the right of the Palestinian people to resist occupation. As for the recognition coming from the heart of Europe, which supports Israel, this constitutes a major transformation that occurs after Palestinian sacrifices.” “There is significant and popular pressure on its rulers that may reach the point of affecting America.”

While some “Blue Space” (Facebook) users saw that the decision came too late from Western countries, after thousands of Palestinians were killed and displaced from their homes since the beginning of the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip, and one of them said, “God willing, it’s been 30 years like this and there’s no need. Let’s start discussing.” There remains the idea of the sovereignty of the beautiful Palestinian state that has been recognized over its lands and its legitimate right to self-defense.”

Palestine welcomed the decision, as the presidency said – in a statement carried by the official news agency (WAFA) – “We highly value the contribution of this decision from Norway in consecrating the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination on their land and in taking actual steps to support the implementation of the two-state solution.”

On the other hand, Israel recalled its ambassadors to Ireland and Norway “to conduct emergency consultations” after these two countries moved towards recognizing the State of Palestine.

It is noteworthy that since 1988, 139 out of 193 member states of the United Nations have recognized the Palestinian state, and that 8 member states of the European Union recognize the Palestinian state, namely Bulgaria, Poland, the Czech Republic, Romania, Slovakia, Hungary, Sweden, in addition to Cyprus.
