On the occasion of International Women’s Day, which is held every March 8, many people have mobilized around the world to demand an end to discrimination against women.

In Italy, International Women’s Day is marked, as tradition dictates, by a general strike (public and private sectors). Thousands of people took to the streets to demand more effective policies against discrimination and sexual violence, at the call of the majority of unions.

In Pristina, the capital of Kosovo, hundreds of women took to the streets to protest against domestic violence and injustice against them. This demonstration was part of International Women’s Day but the message was clear: “We march, we do not celebrate”: “We march, we do not celebrate”. Protesters are calling on authorities to do more to protect women fromsystemic violence” and to increase wages.

In Montenegro, citizens, local and national representatives and non-governmental organizations came together to call for an end to discrimination, marginalization or minimization of women.

In Afghanistan, a group from the Afghan Women’s Revolt Movement staged a protest against the oppressive restrictions imposed by the Taliban regime. Their faces hidden for fear of reprisals, they said “no to gender apartheid“, emphasizing that “Afghanistan is currently hell for women“.
