Norway: trial opens for deadly attack on gay bar


The attack occurred on June 25, 2022, on the eve of the Pride festival, and shocked Norwegian society.

In Norway, this Wednesday, the trial of Zaniar Matapour took place. Accused of terrorism, this 44-year-old Norwegian, originally from Iran, pleaded not guilty.

According to judicial authorities, this man pledged allegiance to the Islamic State.

In 2022, police accused him of opening fire in an LGBT community bar during the Pride festival. Two people were killed and nine others seriously injured. This event shocked the country.

If found guilty of the charges against him, Zaniar Matapour faces a sentence of 30 years in prison.
