Rishi Sunak calls it ‘a historic day’.

The meeting takes place in Belfast in the presence of the British and Irish Prime Ministers, Rishi Sunka and Leo Varadkar.

At their side, Northern Irish Prime Minister Michelle O’Neill and her Deputy Prime Minister Emma Little-Pengelly.

Michelle O’Neill is a Republican and favors the reunification of the island.

Emma Little-Pengelly is a unionist and defends Northern Ireland’s membership in the United Kingdom.

In Northern Ireland, power is shared between the two camps and the institutions have been blocked for two years.

Unionists were boycotting the government over Brexit rules which they said threatened Northern Ireland’s place within the British Crown. An agreement with London was reached last week.

Rishi Sunak speaks of “very constructive meetings” and Leo Varadkar is pleased that “the institutions are operational again.”
