Newspapers: Israel failed to erase the “horrors” of October 7 despite the destruction of Gaza | policy

Israeli and international newspapers focused their attention on the worsening field and humanitarian developments in the Gaza Strip with the continuation of the unprecedented Israeli war, in addition to the latest developments in events in the Middle East region.

The Israeli newspaper Israel Hayom said in an analysis that the “generals’ plan” is gaining momentum in northern Gaza, as 8 members of the Knesset Foreign and Defense Committee signed a letter demanding that the Minister of Defense immediately replace the operational plan in Gaza.

The proposed strategy includes several steps, the first of which is cordoning off the area and evacuating the population, then destroying all energy sources remotely, and cutting off food supplies. The plan also calls for the elimination of anyone moving in the area who does not surrender while carrying a white flag during the siege.

In a related context, the Israeli newspaper Haaretz opined in an article that what is happening in Gaza proves that the extreme right in Israel has achieved complete victory, noting that what the Israeli army is doing in the northern Gaza Strip is linked to an extremist ideology whose goal is resettlement and preventing the return of Palestinians.

But at the same time, the newspaper stressed that “Israel was unable to erase the horrors of October 7, 2023, and the issue of the prisoners remains unresolved,” despite the destruction and killing it unleashed in Gaza.

For its part, the American New Yorker magazine quoted an expert in Israeli public opinion as saying that it has become clear to the Israelis that their government has not given priority to the prisoners detained in Gaza.

According to the expert, Benjamin Netanyahu’s government always found a way not to complete the Gaza deal, noting that there are people who want the war to continue until Gaza is occupied, and that about a third of Israelis support the most extremist part of the government.

Regarding the Palestinian humanitarian issue, the French newspaper Le Monde said that the Gaza Strip is a victim of sabotage of humanitarian aid, as international organizations were able to bring only 70 trucks of supplies per day into the Strip last December, compared to 500 trucks per day before the war.

This situation resulted – according to the newspaper – from the bureaucratic and security obstacles imposed by Israel, and its failure to confront gangs of thieves, stressing at the same time that with the beginning of the winter season the tragic situation in Gaza continues to deteriorate.

Regarding the Syrian issue, the American newspaper The Washington Post reported that the shadow of ISIS will loom over the presidency of US President-elect Donald Trump.

The newspaper pointed out that Trump had declared victory over the organization in his first presidential term, but a group of attacks linked to or inspired by the organization struck major cities in the world during the past year.

The newspaper concluded that the American forces still operating in Syria, as part of the ongoing mission to eliminate the organization, “may remain there as Trump begins his second term this month.”
