Tensions are still high in the Red Sea. Americans and British are increasing air raids against the Houthi rebels supported by Iran.
The United States and Britain struck on Saturday 18 targets of Houthi rebels (pro-Iran) in Yemen, in response to a recent surge in attacks on ships in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden.
U.S. Central Command released images showing U.S. F/A-18 fighter jets launched Saturday from the aircraft carrier USS Dwight D. Eisenhower
American and British warplanes struck eight sites, targeting missiles, launchers, rockets, drones and air defense systems, according to U.S. officials.
On February 18, a Houthi strike damaged a commercial ship causing an oil spill in the region and a risk of ecological disaster as the fertilizer cargo risks spilling into the sea.
This is the fourth time that the American and British military have carried out a combined operation against the Houthis since January 12.
For their part, the Houthis said on Sunday morning that a military operation had targeted US warships and a US commercial oil ship in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden.
“The Yemeni Armed Forces affirm that they will confront the US-UK escalation with more qualitative military operations against all hostile targets in the Red and Oman Seas to defend our country, our people and our nation”he said in a press release.
Strikes benefit from coalition support in the broad sense, which includes Australia, Bahrain, Canada, Denmark, the Netherlands and New Zealand.
This renewed tension in the region is closely linked to the conflict between Hamas and Israel.
