A shooting attack carried out by Jordanian Maher Al-Jazi at the Karameh crossing, which resulted in the killing of 3 Israelis, sparked mixed political and popular reactions, highlighting regional tensions.

In his response to the incident, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu appeared with shaking hands, declaring that Israel was surrounded by a “murderous ideology” led by what he described as the “Iranian axis of evil.”

For his part, Abu Obeida, the military spokesman for the Al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), described the Al-Jazi pistol as “more effective than armies and the accumulated military arsenal,” referring to the power of individual operations.

In a moving statement, Al-Jazzy’s father said, “We consider him a martyr for Islam, Gaza and Jerusalem, God willing.” He explained that his son, who was a former soldier and then worked as a truck driver after his retirement, chose the path of martyrdom of his own free will. The father stressed that the operation was individual and was not linked to any external organization.

The incident comes amid heightened tensions in the region, highlighting the complexities of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and its repercussions on neighbouring countries.
