Netanyahu forms mini-security body instead of war council | News

The Israeli Broadcasting Authority said that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu formed a small security body instead of the War Council, which was dissolved without an official announcement.

She added that the security cabinet includes 6 ministers in addition to Netanyahu and meets regularly to consult on the ongoing war in the Gaza Strip.

The body includes Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, while National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir is absent, as he demands to join the meetings.

The Israeli Broadcasting Authority said in July that Netanyahu dissolved the war government that was established after the Al-Aqsa Intifada on October 7, 2023, following Ben-Gvir and Smotrich’s request to join it, days after the resignation of ministers Benny Gantz and Gadi Eisenkot.

The War Council was the narrowest political and security body in Israel, and was concerned with making political decisions during wartime.
