Thousands of Israelis have participated in antigan demonstrations after Netanyahu took over strikes in Gaza.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accused the opposition of fueling “anarchy” in Israel, after antigan mass demonstrations in recent days, while the opposition chief Yair Lapid called for a “revolt” if the government refuses to accept verdicts issued in the Supreme Court of the country.
Addressing the opposition during a speech in Parliament on Wednesday, Netanyahu said: “You recycle the same worn and ridiculous slogans on” the end of democracy “. Well, once and for all: democracy is not in danger, it is the power of bureaucrats who is in danger. ”
“Perhaps you could stop putting keys in government work in the midst of a war?” Maybe you could stop feeding sedition, hatred and anarchy in the streets? ” He added.
Thousands of Israelis have participated in several days of anti -government demonstrations, accusing Netanyahu of having undermined democracy by removing Ronen Bar, the chief of the internal security agency of Shin Bet and by taking up strikes in Gaza without any regard for the captives held in the besieged enclave.
Netanyahu is locked up in a battle with Shin Bet leader, who is investigating corruption on the Prime Minister’s office, citing a lack of “confidence”. The two men were rubbed, fed by bitter recriminations on the inability to prevent the attacks of October 7, 2023 led by Hamas against southern Israel.
The demonstrations, which broke out last week, were organized by a large coalition of anti-network groups which say that the Israeli chief is trying to stay in power at all costs.
The Supreme Court froze the dismissal of the bar after several calls were filed, in particular by the Yair-Right party to the right of the opposition chief Yair Lapid.
The appeal of the opposition stressed what criticism considers the two main reasons why Netanyahu advanced against Bar.
The first was his criticism of the government on the failure of security which enabled Hamas’s October 7, 2023 attack on Israel, the deadliest day in the history of the country.
The second was what the opposition’s appeal said they were a Shin Bet investigation into close partners in Netanyahu, suspected of receiving money related to Qatar.
Netanyahu’s office rejected accusations as “false news”.
Call for a “revolt”
Israeli opposition chief Yair Lapid called for a “revolt” against the government of Netanyahu if he refused to accept verdicts issued by the country’s Supreme Court.
“A government that does not obey the court is a criminal government that should not be respected,” Lapid told local radio 103FM.
“If the government does not respect the Supreme Court, we must close the country, and it would be the end of everything.”
On Sunday, the cabinet of Israel also adopted a vote without confidence against the country’s attorney general, Baharav-Miara, the first stage of a process to reject it.
The Netanyahu office underlined “significant and prolonged differences between the government and the government’s legal adviser”, a key element of the attorney general.
Following the initial decision of the Supreme Court in the Bar case, Baharav-Miara said that Netanyahu could not appoint a new chief of internal security and was “forbidden to take measures” in his position.
