The Secretary General of NATO, Jens Stoltenberg declared that 23 member countries of the Atlantic Alliance (out of 32) have reached the set threshold of 2% of their GDP.
This is four times more than in 2021, when the war led by Russia in Ukraine for 2 years poses the threat of an extension of the conflict in Europe.
In its annual reportLāNATO underlines that at the Vilnius Summit in 2023, heads of state and government considered it important that Allies continue to invest in defense and honor their commitments.
āThe United States military presence in Europe remains essential for the security and stability of the European continent. But Europeans are doing much more for their collective security than a few years ago. They lead the fight through battle groups in the eastern part of the Alliance. They have increased the readiness of their forces. They strengthened NATO with the arrival of the very competent Finnish and Swedish armies within our alliance.ā said Jens Stoltenberg.
This visit by Jens Stoltenberg sets the stage for a crucial summit of NATO member countries which will take place in Washington from July 9 to 11.
