The results of a UN report on the “World Food and Nutrition Case in the World 2025” today, Monday, revealed that the population of the African continent is still the most suffering category with hunger in the world by drawing the numbers last year 2024.
The report, issued by 5 specialized agencies affiliated with the United Nations, recorded that the percentage of the population facing hunger in Africa exceeded 20% during the year 2024, equivalent to 307 million people.
The declared figures showed that the percentage of those who suffer from hunger in the brown continent constitute about half of the population who suffered from hunger in 2024 across the world, which reaches 673 million people.
The report stated that the percentage of the population who suffered from hunger in the world decreased to 8.2% in 2024, compared to 8.5% in 2023 and 8.7% in 2022, and the average decrease of about 15 million people compared to 2023 and 22 million people compared to 2022.
The report pointed out that while the global average decreased, hunger continued to rise in most regions of Africa and western Asia, as the percentage in the latter reached 12.7%, equivalent to more than 39 million people.
He also pointed out that despite the decline that represents a positive development, the registered numbers “are still above the levels of the Kofid-19, and the report attributed the slow recovery in food security to” great inflation “at the level of food prices in recent years.
The report expected that 512 million people will suffer from a lack of chronic nutrition by 2030, while about 60% of these cases will be in Africa alone, which shows the large challenge facing the continent in achieving the goal of eliminating hunger, which represents the second goal of the sustainable development goals.
