Gaza – A month after falling into a coma, Palestinian national karate team player Nagham Abu Samra was martyred as a result of a serious injury she sustained in an Israeli air strike that targeted her family’s home in the Nuseirat refugee camp in the central Gaza Strip.
The champion, Nagham Abu Samra (26 years old), died after a sports career that the occupation missiles did not want to be completed. The Palestinian Olympic Committee mourned her in a statement on its Facebook account, and the head of the committee, Jibril Rajoub, described her absence as a “huge loss” to Palestinian sports.
He said, “Nagham is a respected figure in Palestinian sports, who leaves a void with her dedicated efforts to promote karate among girls in Gaza and her outstanding academic achievements.”

On the 7th of last month, Nagham’s family home in the Nuseirat camp was subjected to an Israeli air strike, which caused her injury and the amputation of her leg.
The Olympic Committee said, “Due to the lack of treatment for Nagham, the player’s family appealed to everyone to facilitate her daughter’s exit and complete her treatment in Egypt, and to provide her with the necessary medical care.”
The Palestinian sports community received the news of Nagham’s martyrdom with great sadness, and social media platforms were filled with pictures of her, obituary statements, and reminders of her personal and sporting virtues.
Nagham Abu Samra has a distinguished sports career and is the champion of the Gaza Strip in karate. She recently completed her master’s studies in physical education. She also opened a center to train girls and contribute to spreading karate among them.
