More than 95% of the agricultural land of Gaza unusable, not warned | News Israel-Palestine Conflict

Israeli attacks against earth, wells and greenhouses exacerbate the already critical risk of famine in Gaza, says FAO.

According to a new geospatial assessment of the United Nations and the United Nations Geospatial Nations of the Gaza Strip.

The FAO described the situation as “alarming” on Monday, warning that the destruction of agricultural infrastructure in the middle of the War of Israel against Gaza “deteriorates more from food production capacity and exacerbates the risk of famine”.

The joint evaluation has revealed that more than 80% of the total cultivated land of Gaza have been damaged, while 77.8% of these land is now inaccessible to farmers. Only 688 hectares (1,700 acres), or 4.6% of cultivated land, remain available for cultivation.

Destruction has extended to greenhouses and water sources in Gaza, with 71.2% of greenhouses and 82.8% of agricultural wells also damaged.

“This level of destruction is not only a loss of infrastructure – it is a collapse of the agricultural system of Gaza and lifestyles,” said Beth Bechdol, deputy director of the FAO.

“What has once provided food, income and stability for hundreds of thousands is now in ruins. With cultivated land, greenhouses and destroyed wells, local food production stops.

The results follow the publication of the classification analysis of the integrated food security phase (IPC) earlier this month, which warned that the whole population of Gaza faced a critical risk of famine after 19 months of war, mass travel and serious restrictions on humanitarian aid.

While Israel announced last week that this would allow “minimum” deliveries of aid to Gaza, humanitarian organizations warned that the supply net fails to reach the hungry population of Gaza.

Meanwhile, Israeli air attacks continue to kill dozens of Palestinians every day in Gaza.

Israeli forces bombed a school in Gaza on Monday on Monday, triggering a fire and killing at least 36 Palestinians, including several children.

According to health officials.
