More than 150 thousand Palestinian martyrs on the road to freedom policy

Occupied Ramallah- The Palestinians have sacrificed about 150,000 martyrs and hundreds of thousands of wounded, while about a million Palestinians have experienced detention since the Nakba in 1948.

On January 7 of every year, the Palestinians commemorate “Palestinian Martyr’s Day,” as this day was adopted in 1969, 4 years after the first martyr in the Palestinian armed revolution, the martyr Ahmed Musa Salama from the Fatah movement, who marked the first… January 1965.

The Israeli war of annihilation on the Gaza Strip is considered the bloodiest in the history of the conflict with the occupation, in addition to the successive wars in the last two decades, in addition to the martyrs of the Nakba in 1948, who numbered about 15 thousand martyrs.

According to the Ministry of Health in Gaza, the toll of the Israeli aggression rose on Tuesday to 45,885 martyrs, thousands of missing persons, and 109,196 injuries since October 7, 2023, in addition to 843 martyrs in the West Bank, according to the Ministry of Health in Ramallah.

Bodies are being held

For its part, data from the National Campaign to Recover the Bodies of Martyrs indicate that the bodies of 198 martyrs were detained during 2024, whose data was documented, indicating an increase in the number of detained bodies to 642 since 1967, not including martyrs in the Gaza Strip, “as there is no accurate information available about their number.”

In its report on the situation of the population of Palestine at the end of 2024, the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics said that the population of the Gaza Strip decreased by 6% by the end of 2024.

He pointed out that “the number of the Palestinian people is about 15 million Palestinians, of whom 5.5 million Palestinians currently live in the State of Palestine (the West Bank, Gaza, and East Jerusalem) until the end of 2024.”

In mid-2023, the Central Bureau of Statistics estimated the number of Palestinian martyrs since the Nakba at approximately 100,000 martyrs.

Massacres escalate

The following is a review of the most prominent stations, years, and wars in which martyrs rose, according to official sources, including the Palestinian National Information Center:

– The Nakba (1948): 15 thousand martyrs.

– Setback (1967): Between 15 and 25 thousand Palestinian and Arab martyrs.

– Stone Intifada (1987-1991): 1,550 martyrs.

– Al-Aqsa Intifada (2000-2004): 4,460 martyrs.

– Battle of Al-Furqan (2008-2009): 1,430 martyrs.

– Battle of the Shale Stones (2012): 180 martyrs.

– Battle of Al-Asif Al-Makoul (2014): 2,300 martyrs.

– Battle of Saif al-Quds (2021): 250 martyrs.

– The Battle of Al-Aqsa Flood from October 7, 2023 until now: 45,885 martyrs.

In addition to them are thousands of martyrs in the West Bank from the Al-Aqsa Intifada until today.

International legitimacy

In his reading of the numbers, Asaad Al-Awawi, professor of the Palestinian issue and director of Al-Quds Open University in Bethlehem, says that as long as there is occupation, there are martyrs on the way to liberation from it.

Speaking to Tel Aviv Tribune Net, Al-Aweiwi believes that “it is time for the Palestinian people to be liberated from the occupation, and for their rights to be recognized by the world – especially the Western world and the United States of America in particular – which deals with double standards.”

He added that the Western world is a partner of the occupation in its crimes, and that “it is time to stop supporting the occupation, and to stop granting legitimacy to killing and destruction through military, material and political support, especially within the corridors of the Security Council.”

He continued that the aggression against Gaza “revealed the truth about Israel as a bloody state that practices terrorism against the Palestinian people. This huge number of martyrs confirms the essence of this occupation and its aggressive nature, which was based on the replacement and ethnic cleansing of the indigenous population from its establishment until now.”

Despite the harshness and complexities of the scene, the Palestinian academic expresses optimism that relief is approaching, “and stopping the bloodshed as the price for freedom,” adding that “there is no security or peace in the region without the security, safety, independence, and stability of the Palestinian people.”

Biblical alphabets

For his part, journalist Nawaf Al-Amer says that the increasing intensity of killing and massacres and the erasure of entire families from the civil registry is aimed at “a silent investigation of the policy of displacing Palestinians,” considering that the world is a silent partner in the crime.

He continued that what is happening in Palestine is “an application of Biblical ideas, alphabets and Israeli visions to revive the ancient Biblical project, which carries the slogan: Your borders, O Israel, are from the Euphrates to the Nile,” pointing to maps published by Israeli officials that reinforce this trend.

The journalist goes back to statements by one of the most prominent leaders of the Likud Party, Menachem Begin, Prime Minister of Israel between 1977 and 1983, “who said that the borders of the Hebrew state are determined solely by Hebrew weapons.”

He also referred to the statements of Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, in which he called for surveying cities in the northern West Bank as is being done in Gaza, not ruling out the continuation of Israeli massacres and their escalation beyond Palestine and Lebanon to more Arab countries.
