Hospital director Kamal Adwan says several staff members were injured during Israeli bombings.
At least 120 people have been killed in Israeli attacks on Gaza over two days, Palestinian health officials said, as Israel stepped up its bombardment of the besieged territory.
At least seven people were killed when a residence was hit overnight in the Gaza City suburb of Zeitoun, health officials said Saturday. The other deaths were recorded in central and southern Gaza.
Israeli air raids caused significant damage to the al-Faruq mosque in the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza, according to a social media video verified by Tel Aviv Tribune.
Israeli forces also intensified their ground offensive and shelling in northern Gaza, where one of the last partially operational hospitals was hit, injuring several workers.
Hussam Abu Safia, director of Kamal Adwan Hospital, said in a statement Saturday that Israeli forces “directly targeted several times the entrance to the emergency and reception area, as well as the hospital courtyards. , the electrical generators and the hospital doors.”
The bombing “injured 12 doctors, nurses and administrative staff present in the emergency and reception areas,” he said.
The Israeli military rejected the allegations and said it was “not aware of a strike in the Kamal Adwan Hospital area” after an initial review of the situation.
On Friday, Gaza’s health ministry said hospitals only had fuel for about two days before they had to start restricting services.
The Israeli military imposed a siege and launched a new ground offensive in northern Gaza last month, saying it aimed to prevent Hamas fighters from carrying out more attacks and regrouping in the area.
The United Nations warned earlier this week that almost no aid had been delivered to northern Gaza since Israel’s new offensive, as humanitarian groups and food security experts warn of a famine in the region.
In a call with Defense Minister Israel Katz on Saturday, US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin urged Israel to “take steps to improve the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza,” the Pentagon said.
The Israeli attack on Gaza has killed more than 44,000 people and injured more than 104,000 since October 2023, according to Palestinian health officials.
Israel launched its assault on Gaza after Hamas-led attacks on southern Israel on October 7, 2023, in which at least 1,139 people were killed and around 250 captured.
A spokesman for Hamas’ military wing, Abu Ubaida, said later Saturday that an Israeli prisoner held by the group had been killed in northern Gaza, in an area attacked by Israeli forces.
“The life of another prisoner who was with her remains in imminent danger,” he added, accusing the government of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of being responsible and of undermining efforts to end the war.
