Jesus Ociel Baena, Mexican LGBT figure, was found dead in his home Aged 28, the activist defined himself as non-binary
A Mexican figure in the LGBT community, Jesús Ociel Baena, was found dead at home in his apartment in Aguascalientes. Authorities discovered another body at the scene of the tragedy.
The 38-year-old activist said he did not feel a particular belonging to any gender. He defined himself as non-binary. Moreover, he was one of the first people to obtain a passport, which did not mention gender.
Jesús Ociel Baena was a member of the judiciary, he officiated in the electoral tribunal of Mexico.
Placed under police protection, the activist had been the subject of threats. His death caused a lot of emotion, particularly within the LGBT community. On Monday evening, thousands of people gathered in the streets of the Mexican capital to express their anger.
The causes of the activist’s death have not been determined at this stage. According to Mexican authorities, it could be a personal dispute.
The identity of the body found at Baena’s home is also unknown. An investigation has been opened to identify the causes of the death of this emblematic figure of the LGBT cause.
