Mazloum Abdi: “SDF” is in direct contact with Turkey and open to improve relations news

The commander of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) said that his forces are in direct contact with Türkiye and that he is open to improving relations, including holding a meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

The public statements of the oppressed Abdi represented a diplomatic openness after the forces led by the Turkish army and the Syrian factions fighters fought before Ahmed al -Sharaa assumed the presidency of Syria.

In December, Türkiye and the Syrian Democratic Forces agreed to a ceasefire by American mediation after confrontations with the outbreak of the Syrian factions towards Damascus and their overthrow former President Bashar al -Assad.

Reuters quoted Abdi as saying to Shams TV channel in an interview broadcast on Friday that the group is in contact with Türkiye, without clarifying the period of the survival of the communication channels open.

Relationship development

The leader of “SDF” added that they have direct relationships and communication channels with Türkiye, as well as through intermediaries, expressing his hope that these relationships will be developed.

Türkiye says that the Kurdish People’s Protection Units, which lead the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), cannot be distinguished from the Kurdistan Workers Party, which decided earlier this month itself after a 40 -year conflict with the Turkish state.

Abdi pointed out that his forces and the Turks have fought long wars against each other, but the temporary truce has stopped those clashes during the past two months, expressing his hope that the armistice would become permanent.

When asked if he intends to meet Erdogan, Abdi said he had no current plans to do so, but he made it clear that he is not opposed, and that they are not in war with Turkey and in the future they can develop relations with it, indicating that they are open to this.
